Welcome To Holy Cow Tea

A woman with long dark hair, wearing a long-sleeved top and a necklace, sits at a table holding a glass of what might be Holy Cow Tea and smiling. The background shows shelves and cupboards, slightly out of focus in black and white.
Two clear glass tumblers filled with holy cow tea, with fresh green herbs floating on top, placed on a light surface with green leaves nearby.
A clear glass teapot with a golden handle contains water and floating pink and yellow flowers, perfect for steeping holy cow tea. It sits on a dark table beside dried flowers and a closed yellow book, sunlight streaming through the window.

Poonam started serving festive spiced chai tea to customers as an alternative to mulled wine on cold winter days. At that time, our selection of handmade and ethically-sourced goods didn’t include premium tea. When customers started enquiring about tea suppliers, a spark was lit.

Creating chai blends is part of my culture. Across India, families mix black tea with spices such as cardamom, ginger, cloves, cinnamon, fennel seeds, turmeric and peppercorns to create blends tailored to their preferred tastes. I was excited to learn more about the history, cultures and processes surrounding tea in all its forms.

Becoming a Tea Champion/Tea Sommelier

With the idea of creating Holy Cow Tea, I enrolled on a course with the UK Tea Academy. It was fascinating to discover so much about black, green, white and oolong teas. I can now appreciate the subtle changes in flavour that occur depending on the variety, blend and brewing time, as well as the cup you drink from.

Qualifying as a Tea Champion gave me the confidence to go forward and create bespoke tea blend recipes for Holy Cow. It also made me realise that there is so much more to learn. I continue to seek out opportunities to further expand my tea knowledge.  I am delighted to share the learning is a life long journey, in 2024 I became a Tea Sommelier – with aspirations of becoming a tea master in the future

Providing Tea Experiences

We launched our range of straight and bespoke blend teas in 2020. We love to provide a unique shopping experience for customers, so began offering tea tasting experiences in our shop. These events gave shoppers a chance to sample our blends and we welcomed their feedback.

In 2017, I launched the Festival of Lights in Aylesbury. This community event brings together people of all ages and faiths in a celebration of colour, dance, music and food. In the Holy Cow Tea launch year 2020 , we had to adapt and create a virtual festival. As one of the many events, I created a Chai Tea Experience.

This proved popular and as we received requests to offer corporate tea tasting experiences, it became clear that this would add to our tea offer. We have plans to further expand our tea tasting experiences, so keep an eye out for updates!

“How I love my tea, tea in the afternoon, I can’t do without it, so I think I’ll have another cup very, very soon”
